Making of

'CATHEDRAL' is a 13-track ensemble, released on April 12th 2024. All tracks were written and pre-produced by myself and tell the story of an unviable love. The first draft of the album was formed in 2014, evolving over time to become what it is today. All songs received their final touches in 2022 during the recording in Berlin which took place in different studios, among others Changes Berlin, Upstairs, Famous Gold Watch and Funkhaus, and was partially sponsored by GVL Neustart Kultur.
It features Chris Hill on drums and percussion, Jelmer de Haan on bass, Robert Spencer on guitar, Lee Caspi on cello, Nanako Tarui on violin, Laurin Oppermann on harp, and Hana on piano, bass, and synths. Brian Trahan, originally from Chicago, co-produced and mixed the album, while Norman Nitzsche mastered it (2023).
The name CATHEDRAL was inspired by the parable about three bricklayers who were all doing the same thing but had different attitudes about it. Thus, when they were asked by a traveler what they were doing, one by one, replied differently : 'I am laying bricks,' 'I am putting up a wall,' 'I am building a cathedral.'
When creating the album, I applied this concept to my own story and used it as a metaphor for an uneven relationship I had experienced.
